In 1980, the concrete engineer Wilhelm Meyer and the businessman Heiner Brinkhege initiated the foundation of fdu with the founding of the first production plant which, in 1984, under participation of the Sievert building materials group, still operated under the original name Fertig-Decken-Union GmbH. What was once considered a small-medium-sized company in Bad Laer near Osnabrueck, developed in the following years with up to 27 facilities into one of the largest providers of wall and ceiling elements in Germany. Due to strong growth in 1990 Brinkhege optimized work processes in the course of the formation of Heiner Brinkhege Beteiligungsgesellschaft (HBB). The HBB is the general partner of other leading companies, such as Engelhardt-Druck, Walcher Etiketten and KVN Autokrane (wind power service) with approximately 1,869 employees and generates annual sales of 449 million euros. Since 2009, the fdu is conducted under the sole shareholder HBB.
